Epstein-Barr virus

Epstein Barr is the name of a virus that causes mononucleosis.

People who have a low immunity that come in contact with someone who has Mononucleosis, or herpes. Many

symptoms people have that are caused by lifestyle things that have depressed their immunity so that the virus

can become active again. The virus is NOT causing their symptoms; it is the causes behind the rising titer in

the blood that are causing the symptoms.

Mononucleosis (commonly referred to as mono or 'kissing disease') is associated with the presence of EBV

(Epstein-Barr Virus). Unlike rabies, EBV is a very weak virus. It has little chance of creating problems unless

the immune function of the host is fairly low. Since it is a virus, and no drugs are effective in killing viruses,

doctors really have no pharmaceutical weapons to offer. They must rely completely on the natural immunity of

the patient to rein the virus back under control. They give a deceptively simple prescription - complete bed rest

until symptoms resolve (usually about 6 weeks).

This does not mean that the patient cannot become a symptomatic (without any symptoms) of mononucleosis.

Most do. In fact if they maintain a sufficient high immunity.

Avoiding stress through bed rest patients can usually increase their immunological reserves enough to push

Epstein-Barr virus back into dormancy. However once this virus is contracted the host will continue to carry it

for the rest of their life. If immunity drops sufficiently in the future this virus can multiply rapidly and become active.

In effect a person with Epstein-Barr virus will never be completely 'cured' since the virus cannot be entirely


A common observation, by holistic medical practitioners, has been that the most important thing for anyone to

do is nearly always the very last thing that they are willing to do. The only problem is that the person needs to

be willing to learn enough about it that they will do it.

A gargle made from sage tea may help if your swallowing difficulty is from an inflamed throat.

Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 2-3 tsp. of chopped sage leaves. Steep for 5 minutes strain and then cool. Use

the warn tea to gargle several times daily. Inhaling Sage oil may also help.


Combing herbs with certain drugs may alter their action or produce unwanted side effects. Tell your health care

practitioner immediately about any prescription or nonprescription drugs you're taking.


Dust mites tend to live throughout your home and can contribute to allergies and worsening asthma, especially

when they are in you're bedding. Soaking your bed linens in bleach and regular laundry detergent for four hours

prior to the usual machine washing in warm water can probably kill most dust mites, according to research

published in the June 2002 issue of the medical journal Annals of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. It is also

recommended that you keep your mattress and pillows encased in special allergy covers to prevent the dust

mites from getting back into your linen.

Delicious Italian Vegetable Soup

Low Fat 0.7g of fat per portion

Carrot - 1 (julianne)

Baby leek - 1 (julianne)

Celery - 1 stick (julianne)

Green cabbage - 1 cup (thinly sliced)

Vegetable soup stock - 3 1/2 cups

Bay leaf - 1

Cooked cannellini - 1 cup

Either stars or shells soup pasta - 1/4 cup

Salt and pepper - add to taste

Diced green chives - to garnish

Add bay leaf, and bring the soup stock to a boil.

Add in carrots, leek, celery, soup pasta and reduce heat. Let it simmer for 5minutes.
